A Royal Afternoon Tea Celebration at The Porterbrook
At The Porterbrook, we’re always looking for ways to bring joy and togetherness to our residents, and this winter, we hosted a very special royal-themed afternoon tea in honour of Princess Kate’s birthday. While the snow fell outside, our Sheffield community came together in warmth, laughter, and celebration for a truly delightful day.
The celebrations began with residents gathering in our beautifully decorated bar area, which was transformed into an inviting and cosy space to ward off the season's chill. Our talented kitchen team pulled out all the stops, preparing an exquisite selection of homemade cakes, delicate pastries, biscuits, and finger sandwiches, all served alongside piping hot tea and coffee. From classic Victoria sponge to buttery shortbread, there was something for everybody to enjoy, and no one left their seat without a smile on their face.
As we enjoyed the delicious afternoon tea, our residents had a great time sharing fond memories and stories of their favourite royal moments. From the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to Prince William and Kate’s wedding, it was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the sense of tradition and unity that the Royal Family brings to so many. Both our team and residents shared some fascinating new facts about the Royal Family which was brilliant to see. By the end of the afternoon, we all felt a little more connected—not just to the Royals, but to each other.
While our residents were enjoying their snacks and conversations, our dedicated team worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. Special thanks go to our maintenance man, Cameron, who braved the cold to ensure the pathways outside were safe and clear for visitors, staff, and any emergency services.
By the time the afternoon drew to a close, everyone agreed it had been a truly memorable day. The laughter, the stories, and the delicious food created a bright spot in the middle of the winter season—a reminder that even in the coldest weather, the warmth of community and shared experiences can make all the difference.
