Brenda’s Reminiscence Road Trip

Brenda arrived at The Porterbrook earlier this year to recuperate following surgery with some respite care.

Initially her stay was for four weeks. Brenda explained: “I was looking for somewhere to rest for a few weeks and The Porterbrook seemed like the ideal home.

“My room is extremely comfortable, and I found having an en-suite wet room very helpful. I absolutely love the food, which is different every day and tastes excellent. Companionship is also very important to me so knowing help was on hand at the touch of a button has been extremely reassuring.

“During my stay, the Deputy Manager, Adele, offered to take me out for a few hours for a reminiscence road trip. It was the first time I had travelled in a car since my surgery, so I was very excited about the whole thing. It helps of course that the car is so comfortable and spacious, and we have our own chauffeur. I felt very special.”

The trip took Brenda to the home she started married life in back in 1955 and finished after a detour to some beautiful landmarks around Derbyshire at her current home in Sheffield.

Brenda said: “I had a wonderful time - even the rain didn’t dampen my spirits. What seems like quite a small gesture proved to be a truly memorable experience and one I won’t forget for a long time.”
