Embracing The Euros Excitement with Dedicated Viewing Area
June is traditionally the start of summer, but the weather seems to have missed the memo! Despite the gloom, there's a bright spot for football fans as the excitement of the Euros sweeps across the country, with hopes high that this might be the year 'Football comes home'. At The Porterbrook Care Home, we understand the importance of maintaining our residents' hobbies and passions and for many, that means enjoying the beautiful game.
We're fortunate to have a variety of communal spaces at The Porterbrook, allowing us to cater to different interests without disruption. This has enabled us to create a dedicated football viewing area, ensuring that our football enthusiasts can enjoy every match in a specially designed space.
The downstairs quiet lounge has been transformed into a football haven, with all things football to create the perfect atmosphere for watching the Euros. Equipped with a TV, drinks and snacks, this area is free from distractions and interruptions, allowing fans to fully immerse themselves in the excitement of the games. Family and friends are not only welcome but encouraged to join their loved ones, making the experience even more special. We even have a signed photo from Sheffield-born England player Kyle Walker, adding a touch of local pride to our setup.
Creating this football viewing room means that other communal areas remain available for residents who prefer different activities. We have maintained spaces for regular programming, quiet lounges for reading and conversation, a cinema for movie enthusiasts and a bar area for those who enjoy socialising over a coffee or a tipple. This way, celebrating the football doesn’t impact non-football fans, ensuring there's room and support for everyone to enjoy their preferred activities.
Being in care should not be a barrier to enjoying football. By providing a dedicated space, we support our residents in continuing to follow the matches and share the experience with family and friends. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents and their relatives appreciating the effort to make the Euros a special time.
At The Porterbrook Care Home, we believe that the joys of football and family gatherings should be accessible to all, creating an inclusive environment where everyone’s interests are respected and celebrated.
