Getting Green in the Garden

Our residents sat around a table planting flowers in pots at The Porterbrook Care Home

This summer, when the weather has been on our side, we have gone to great lengths to get our residents out in our gardens soaking up the sun and fresh air.

For many of our residents, gardening is a previously much-loved hobby. We strongly believe that just because individuals move into a care home, this should not strip them of doing the things they love.

At The Porerbrook, we encourage our residents to treat the home as their own and that includes our gardens. Residents have loved being outside recently in the fresh air, planting beautiful blooms for all to admire.

We now also have lovely hanging baskets out the front and planters in the courtyard, thanks to the efforts of our wonderful, creative residents.

Not only have our residents enjoyed planting the flowers, but they have also been busy tending to them and watering them, ensuring that they last all summer long.

Both our residents and staff love the brightness of our garden and hanging baskets so much that we decided to also brighten up the home with fresh flowers that the residents kindly arranged in vases for us.

When our residents gardening endeavours are complete, they like to chat about their hobbies and enjoy a well-earned hot drink and home-baked goods.

It is important to us here at our care home in Sheffield that our residents have an environment that they enjoy, want to spend their time in and invite loved ones over to enjoy too. It is essential to us that residents also receive endless opportunities to socialise, continue hobbies, and try out new interests.

If you are interested in finding out more about life at The Porterbrook Care Home, then we welcome people to book a tour, meet our staff, and ask any questions about the care and lifestyle we have to offer.
