Interview with BBC Radio Sheffield

On Thursday 17th February 2022, we were delighted to have an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield at our home here at The Porterbrook. The purpose of the interview was to speak with staff and residents about our 28 Mile Walk Challenge for Alzheimer's Research UK.

We shared with them our progress so far which has seen residents, staff, friends, and family alike, all walk in contribution to the 28 Mile challenge. Before the challenge started, our maintenance man, Jamie, measured out and painted a track for us to walk along. We started on the 1st of February and by the end of the day, we had already finished our first mile! The challenge was opened by one of our lovely residents, a special 'Boris' guest appearance, and of course a themed cake.

We had an amazing first week, and apart from a couple of bad days of weather, we had already completed 10 miles and almost doubled our fundraising target. We will be continuing to walk throughout the rest of February and we are excited to find out just how many miles we end up totaling.

We would like to take this as an opportunity to thank the support of residents, staff, friends and family. Keep posted as we look to celebrate the end of the challenge on the 28th February, which we plan to do so with a finishing line, outdoor party, entertainer, cake, and a thank you speech from an Alzheimers Research UK representative.

If you would like to listen to the interview and find out more about what the challenge has consisted of, then you can do so by visiting our Facebook page here. If you would like to donate, then please contact our home manager, Lynne, or visit our fundraising page here.
