Open Day Success
Our residents were in fits of laughter at our open day...
Ventriloquist and comedian Andy Greaves, who has appeared on BBC’s ‘Families at War’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, Sky’s ‘Search for a Star’ and ITV’s ‘Fame Game’, dropped in to our home for our open day.
Andy has been in showbusiness for more than 40 years and made his first on television in Yorkshire TV’s ‘Calendar Kids’ at the age of just 13.
Our home also invited members from the local community to the day which included a free light lunch and refreshments.
Andy was joined in the afternoon by Leo The Therapy Pony from Lightwood Therapy Ponies. Our residents and visitors were able to ask questions about the seven-year old rescue pony, as well as getting up close to Leo to pet and stroke him.
The Porterbrook's care home manager Sheilagh Sweeney said: “Andy was absolutely wonderful and really funny. He sang lots of songs and had the residents in hysterics.
“They also enjoyed meeting Leo The Therapy Pony. Lightwood Therapy Ponies promote spending time with ponies and horses for its positive physical and emotional benefits as it encourages interaction amongst some of our residents who find it difficult to communicate.
“It was lovely to see so many new faces at The Porterbrook too as lots of people from the local community came so, all in all, it was fantastic day!”
