Our Fortnighly Exercise Sessions Are a Huge Hit!

At The Porterbrook, we know how important it is to support not only the physical health of our residents but also their mental and emotional well-being. That’s why we run regular group activities that keep both the body and mind engaged. One of the most popular of these is our fortnightly resident exercise session, led by Ben, who is a physiotherapist for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

These sessions are designed to be gentle, inclusive, and enjoyable. With Ben’s expertise, each class is tailored to suit the individual needs of our residents, with movements and stretches that help maintain flexibility, strength, and mobility. The main aim is to promote independence for as long as possible while reducing the risk of falls or discomfort from inactivity. The sessions are also an opportunity to bring our residents together and build their connections.

Our residents often say they look forward to the session, not just for the activity itself, but for the sense of togetherness it brings. There’s laughter, shared encouragement, and a warm sense of community. For many, it’s a chance to catch up with friends, meet someone new, or simply enjoy the upbeat atmosphere.

Ben’s friendly and professional approach makes everyone feel welcome, regardless of their ability or confidence level. His connection to the local football club adds a nice talking point, especially for any sports fans who participate. It’s been a real treat having someone with such experience work closely with us.

We’ve seen some wonderful benefits, both in mood and mobility, and it’s a reminder of how the little things, like a regular routine and a familiar and friendly face, can have such a positive impact.
