Meet Brenda, Our In-House Librarian

Brenda Our Librarian

Here at The Porterbrook Care Home, we love to be able to provide our residents with the opportunity to be themselves and to continue pursuing the things in life that make them happy. For many of our residents, being able to continue participating in these activities gives them a real sense of independence and purpose throughout their stay with us. That’s why when Brenda, one of our fantastic residents, asked if she could be Librarian at The Porterbrook we were delighted to say yes.

Brenda is a former teacher, and she loves all things books, so she thought becoming a Librarian would be the perfect fit for her. At The Porterbrook, we understand just how important it is to keep the mind active. No matter how old you are, reading is a fantastic way to keep your brain stimulated and your imagination going strong. Getting lost in a book is a brilliant way to relax after a long day, or transport you to an entirely different world altogether.

When asked about becoming a Librarian at The Porterbrook, Brenda told us “I like being useful and I love to write and don’t do it often now.  I love looking through the books and their covers and choosing which ones I might like to read.” Brenda is also looking forward to the future of the Library, and what developments can be made to make the Library even better. “I’ve been told we might be starting up a mobile library for residents in their rooms and then I will be stamping or using tickets for the books.”

We love it when our residents want to take charge, and when Brenda wanted to become a Librarian, we had no qualms about her doing just that. When our residents feel passionate about something, we always want to make sure that our residents have a safe space to pursue their interests in. The Porterbook is a great place for ensuring our residents continue their personal, mental and emotional growth.
