Residents Enjoy a Flavourful ‘Around the World’ Breakfast

At The Porterbrook, we love finding new ways to bring residents, staff, and families together, especially when it involves great food and lively conversation. This month, our Around the World Breakfast proved to be a wonderful way to do just that.

The idea came about when we were looking for an activity that could involve not only our residents but also our kitchen team, staff, and visiting family members. With such a diverse mix of people in our home—including staff from France, relatives living in America, and residents with connections to Germany—it seemed only fitting to explore a variety of breakfasts from around the world. And, of course, we couldn’t leave out a classic Full English!

On the morning of the event, the dining room was filled with the delicious aromas of fresh croissants, sizzling bacon, and warm treats. Residents had the chance to sample a range of dishes, from fluffy American pancakes with maple syrup to buttery French pastries and hearty German slices of bread and meat. Many enjoyed their favourites, while others embraced the opportunity to try something new. One of our lovely married couples even chose different countries to ‘visit’ for breakfast, adding a fun and personal touch to the occasion.

But it wasn’t just about the food—the breakfast also sparked wonderful conversations. As residents tucked into their meals, they shared fond memories of travels, family connections abroad, and their experiences of different cultures. One resident reminisced about visiting their daughter in America and enjoying diner-style breakfasts, while another spoke of childhood holidays in France and how nothing quite compares to freshly baked pastries enjoyed in a little café.

The Full English, of course, was a firm favourite, with many agreeing that it always tastes best when enjoyed in a cosy setting—just like a weekend away in a nice hotel! This morning created a warm and nostalgic atmosphere, filled with laughter and storytelling. The success of our Around the World Breakfast has inspired us to explore even more food-themed activities in the future. Who knows where our next culinary adventure will take us?

We currently have availability for new residents at our wonderful care home in Sheffield. To get involved in our vibrant lifestyle or to find out more about how we can enrich the lives of you or your loved ones, get in touch!
