Trinity Bell Ringers Visit The Porterbrook
Christmas is always a busy time with lots of crafts, activities and entertainment happening throughout the month. However, we still take the time to remember that our residents are individuals, with hobbies and interests of their own before moving into the care home.
Before making the decision to move into The Porterbrook one of our ladies, Jennie, was a member of the Trinity Bell Ringers and her husband used to run the group. On the 6th December 2023, we had an extra special visit from the Trinity Bell Ringers, to entertain our lovely residents with some beautiful music.
Christmas was the ideal time to invite them into our home, where they played a number of festive tunes for our residents to enjoy. Our very own Jennie then took to the bells and joined in with entertaining her friends, as they played Jennie's husband's favourite Christmas Carol.
Jennie enjoyed being back with the group and re-kindled a past love of the bells.
The Benefits Of Music
Many of our residents benefit from listening to music and enjoyed being entertained by the Trinity Bell Ringers and by one of the friendly faces in our home.
The therapeutic benefits of music, especially for individuals with dementia, are well-documented. Our dementia residents at The Porterbrook find this experience exceptionally rewarding. Engaging in familiar songs not only rekindles memories but also stimulates cognitive functioning and enhances emotional well-being. Music allows residents to have a secure and supportive space to freely express themselves, fostering a sense of fulfilment and joy.
Our activities team, are always looking for ways to encourage residents to get involved in day-to-day fun at The Porterbrook. Both the staff and residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Trinity Bell Ringers. See how our varied activities programme can support residents and enrich their quality of life.
