Working With The Younger Generation

Here at The Porterbrook, we’re always on the lookout for kind, compassionate team members who are dedicated to making a positive change in our residents’ lives. Those who have a cheery disposition and are passionate about care are always invited to work with us at The Porterbrook, and we also welcome those looking to volunteer.

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for every 15-17 year old in England. This social group is a place where young people can make new friends, experience new activities and learn new skills whilst contributing to the local community.

We at The Porterbrook have been lucky enough to be chosen as one of the community projects. The local NHS group came to the home to work on an outdoor project. They hung flowerbeds, and solar lights and even put together a birdhouse to spruce up the fence and bring some more wildlife to the home.

On one of the days the NCS group were here we had an Italian Day.

The group assisted residents with Italian-themed activities. There were arts and crafts, Italian music, Italian food and Italian being spoken.

To see the balcony full of a mixture of residents and young people was wonderful with lots of chatter and laughter.

Thank you to NCS for coming and to all the staff who got involved.

We were also delighted to welcome Daisy, one of our new volunteers. A lot of our volunteers come through the NCS (National Citizenship Service), and we love having them come into The Porterbrook and spread their positivity and passion throughout the home. Daisy is 19 years old and her Grandad had Alzheimer's.

She comes to The Porterbrook Care Home every Friday morning and works alongside our activity team to help them create tailored and exciting activities for our residents to take part in.

Daisy spends time chatting to the residents, visiting those who choose to stay in their bedrooms and getting involved in the morning “Activity of the Day”. Daisy will often deliver worksheet activities to the bedrooms so our residents always have something to do. Daisy has decided to do the Memory Walk in association with the Alzheimer's Society this year in memory of her Grandad and we all wish her luck on this challenge.

We would be delighted to hear from you if you would like more information about the unmatched care services provided at The Porterbrook Care Home, or the opportunity to volunteer at our home.
